Pelvic floor diagnostics
Pelvic floor
Our pelvic floor is an important group of muscles that gives our body support, strength and upright posture . It is responsible for supporting organs such as the bladder, uterus and bowel. Strains such as pregnancy, intense sport or a lot of sitting can weaken the pelvic floor and impair its functions.
When the pelvic floor no longer performs its tasks properly, this can lead to various problems. The most common symptoms of pelvic floor weakness include:
-
Incontinence (urine leakage or uncontrolled urination)
-
Prolapse of the uterus or bladder
-
Back pain or herniated disc
-
Pain during sexual intercourse or during menstruation
-
Postural problems and pain in the skeletal system
-
Abdominal wall instability, such as inguinal hernias.

Diagnostics
What does a diagnostic assessment involve and what are the benefits for me?
The assessment is a multi-step process.
Before our appointment, you will receive some documents to fill out, such as a bladder diary, which you keep for 24 hours.
At the beginning of the appointment, I take a detailed medical history with you to get a first impression of your pelvic floor problems, possible causes and any habits that may be maintaining them.
After that, I perform a palpation examination, feeling the pelvic floor both externally and internally (vaginally or anally, depending on your genitals). This involves assessing strength, possible prolapse and whether you are activating your pelvic floor correctly.
If needed, this is followed by an ultrasound of your pelvic floor so that it can be assessed precisely. At the moment I still refer you to a gynecological practice for this; soon I will offer it myself.
Why do I do all this?
In order to create the right therapy and the right training for you, I need to know exactly which problems your pelvic floor is causing you and where its weak points are. Only then can I discuss with you how to proceed and help you in a targeted way.
